Kia supermini concept headed for Frankfurt Show

The Frankfurt Motor Show, as usual, is shaping up to be a big one. It’s still four weeks away and yet several major manufacturers have let slip what they’ll be bringing along to the party. Kia is the latest to tease their wares on the ‘net, publishing some artistic renders which show a B-segment supermini concept designed to fit in under the Rio and cee’d models.
Kia say the new concept is “playful but gutsy, sturdy yet impish”, whatever that means. The car was designed in Europe and is specifically aimed at European buyers. The car was designed to appeal to small car buyers who don’t necessarily want a compact car feel. To that end Kia say their concept features intruiging elements not usually found on smaller cars.
Personally, and this is just going by the two poorly-lit teaser images, I think the most interesting element of the concept is the interior. Which features an unusual flowing bench-like front seat, and out of this sprout two cylinders which are angled towards the dashboard. The cylinder closest to the driver is the drive selector for the automatic transmisson, while the other cyclinder looks to provide some sort of control for other minor systems.
While Kia state that they currently have no plans to put the concept into production, feedback from visitors at the Frankfurt show will be used to help the company create future production models.
