Carice Mk1 – Classic looks, Electric power

Carice MK1
If you’ve been on the prowl for an electric vehicle lately, but constantly frustrated by the lack of style offered by conventional mainstream manufacturers, then the Dutch guys at Carice Cars might have the answer.
The Carice Mk1 is a classically styled roadster which looks like a cross between a Porsche Speedster and a chopped Beetle. It looks good, but its practicality is questionable as it has no bad weather protection – lacking a roof or even side windows. A tonneau cover can be used to keep the interior dry(ish) when parked up.
This simplistic approach, which carries through to the attractive yet Spartan interior, has resulted in a car which is ludicrously light, especially for an EV. The Carice Mk1 weights just 350 kgs (771 lbs) – depending on battery size and other drivetrain options.

Carice MK1
Carice offer the Mk1 in a variety of configurations, including one with a range extender engine. The electric motor powering the vehicle also comes in a range of sizes. Starting with a laughable 5 hp unit (intended for junior drivers), to a more reasonable 20 horsepower motor, and the top-spec 54 hp model.
Prices for the Carice Mk1 are a little less amusing, with the cheapest model starting at $36,000 (£21,000). The company has already taken 10 orders.
