Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake – fast, practical, stunning, expensive

Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
Jaguar has just revealed all the details regarding their all-new XFR-S Sporbrake. It’s the first high-performance estate car (wagon) the company has ever produced, and it utilizes the exact same drivetrain as the impressive XFR-S saloon. That means that mounted up front is a 5.0 litre V8 engine which produces 550 horsepower and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. It also means the XFR-S Sportbrake can hit 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, and continue on to an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph (300km/h). Now that’s supercar territory.
The transmission is an 8-speed unit with something Jaguar calls ‘Quickshift’ functionality – enabling it to provide optimal acceleration throughout the speed and rev ranges. When downshifting (either manually or when in Sport mode) the engine management system automatically blips the throttle too, to keep the car balanced, while simultaneously sounding amazing.
To cope with the extra weight over the rear axle, the XFR-S Sportbrake’s rear suspension has been specifically calibrated for the car, with different spring rates and damper settings. The active electronic differential and Dynamic Stability Control settings have also been tuned to work with the XFR-S Sportbrake’s redesigned rear suspension.

There isn’t too much to talk about regarding the exterior of the car. It’s an XFR-S with a bigger and more practical cargo area. It looks good and its practical. It has 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels, and buyers can choose from five colors: Ultra Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Polaris White and Italian Racing Red.

On the inside, the additional space is felt most by the rear seat passengers who now have more headroom. The rear seats have a 60:40 split fold function and ski pass hatch in the center. Remote-fold levers inside the load-space opening allow the seats to be stowed flat quickly and easily, creating a cargo volume of up to 1675 litres.
The interior is trimmed in a combination of Warm Charcoal leather trim on the seats and doors complimented by carbon effect leather. Exclusive to Jaguar’s R-S cars, this trim is used on the seat bolsters and arm rests and reflects the use of carbon fibre on the exterior aerodynamic elements of the car. The seats themselves are embossed with the R-S logo and can be finished with a choice of contrast colour micro-piping and stitching in either red, blue or ivory. The XFR-S Sportbrake is fitted as standard with a 825W, 18-speaker system from Meridian.
