VUHL 05

VŪHL have finally released all the details on their track-inspired 05 sports car. As you may remember from the VŪHL 05′s preview announcement back in March, the 05 was developed by the Echeverria brothers, Iker and Guillermo, and their Mexico City/Detroit based design agency ETXE.

The VUHL 05 features a monocoque chassis which weighs in at a mere 78 kgs (172 lbs). In fact the whole car is ridiculously light, tipping the scales at just 695 kgs (1,532 lbs). The chassis is made up from a three-section bonded tub formed from aluminium. Attached to the passenger compartment is a chrome-moly steel subframe at the rear which houses the engine and rear suspension components. At the front a specially designed three-stage crash structure provides protection for the occupants in the event of a head-on collision. The minimal yet stylish bodywork is formed from reinforced plastic, however on request VŪHL will replace them with carbon fiber panels.

Powering the VŪHL 05 is a 2.0 litre DOHC Ford Ecoboost turbocharged engine. This engine produces 285 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, giving the 05 an impressive power to weight ratio of 400 horsepower per ton. The result is a car which can accomplish the 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.7 seconds. The top speed is 152 mph (245 km/h).

The VUHL 05 uses a six-speed manual gearbox to transmit the power to the rear wheels. Unequal length double wishbone suspension features at both front and rear. Braking is by four-piston alloy callipers all-round, with 310mm ventilated cross-drilled discs at the front, and 280mm units at the rear.

The interior of the VUHL 05 features carbon fiber bucket racing seats, a quick-release suede trimmed steering wheel, data acquisition system, integrated HD camera, and water-resistant Dinamica suede trim.

The VUHL 05 will go on sale in the US and UK first, with prices starting at $106,000 / £55,000. The car will be available in the other key European countries, China, Middle-East etc in due course.
