What is it with Mexico and sports cars lately. In 2010 they didn’t have a single sports car manufacturer. And now they have Mastretta,VUHL, and soon, RON.
RON Automobile have got a couple of cars in the pipeline. They’re currently in the process of building a prototype of the RON R7 – a Lotus 7 derived two-seat roadster with some stylish bodywork (if the sketches turn out to be accurate), and the RON RXX, which is a futuristic looking lightweight sports car with tandem seating and a mid-mounted engine.
The RXX is by far the most interesting of the two vehicles, mainly because of its originality. If they can pull it off it will be one of the few sports cars on the market to have the driver and passenger sitting inline, instead of next to each other. Joining the ranks of vehicles like the Caparo T1 and a.d. Tramontana. Although by the looks of it the RON RXX won’t have the same sort of power as either of those monsters.
The RON RXX is a fairly stylish looking concept. But that’s when it’s a simple 3D model. Turning those digital shapes into something which you can get in and drive is going to be the tricky part.
When the RON RXX does finally go on sale it will be sold in three different versions, the base RXX, the slightly sportier RXX-S, and the top-spec RXX-R.
Below is the RON Automobiles Press release for the RXX (Translated from Spanish):
Automobile Ron Mexico is a newly established Mexican company whose mission is to develop high performance vehicles with a team of professionals from Mexico.
RXX: It will be the flagship model of RON Automobiles Mexico, its concept being a super lightweight sporty two-seater in tandem configuration with a unique ultra modern design and a chassis made of aluminum, carbon fiber body and interior offering high rigidity. It aims to bring to the heart of the common people the experience of Formula 1 with dizzying acceleration and a low center of gravity allowing the driver to experience pure dynamic handling.
The body is a balance between sensual curves and angled panels that give it an exotic look reserved for elite sports. Although you can legally drive it on the streets, RXX has an egocentric personality placing the driver in the center of the car, significantly improving their vision compared to the passenger.
It will be sold in three versions. The RXX, RXX-S and RXX-R will be differentiated by unique finish, equipment and power.
