2016 BMW 7 Series recalled for airbag issue

BMW has issued a recall notice for 168 of its new ‘G11’ 2016 7 Series sedans over fears an airbag fault may increase the likelihood of injury occurring during an accident.
The German car maker reports that an error during the manufacturing process caused small metallic particles, said to be stamp residue, to stick to the inside of the airbag control unit housing.
During a crash, the particles might lift away from the housing, causing a short circuit that could reset the airbag control unit.
Should this occur, the airbag’s ability to inflate may be diminished, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants.
The recall affects 7 Series sedans built between October 13 and December 11 2015.
BMW says there have been no reports of any incidents resulting from the defect.
Owners of affected vehicles are advised to contact an authorised BMW service centre to have the issue resolved.
For more information, owners can contact the BMW Group Customer Interaction Centre on 1800 813 299.
