Mitsubishi 2014 Pikes Peak MiEV Evolution III racecar

Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III electric race car
Mitsubishi have announced that they will return to Colorado to compete in the Electric Modified Division of the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. They will enter a pair of 100-percent electric-powered racecars called the Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III.
According to Don Swearingen, the VP of Mitsubishi Motors North America, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb is the ideal test ground for the company’s latest electric vehicle technology. The grueling and power-sapping increase in elevation, coupled with changing temperatures and weather conditions makes it particularly hard on electric vehicles.
The Mitsubishi MiEV Evolution III is based on the same drivetrain used in the production i-MiEV. It features the same four-motor (2 front, 2 rear) layout, but with increased output. It also features Mitsubishi’s trademark Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. Updates for the 2014 racer over last year’s entry include a significant boost in power, up to 603 hp from 536 hp. A new, lighter chassis, new more aerodynamic bodywork, and a revised traction control system.

The same Mitsubishi drivers as last year, Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy, will return to pilot the two MiEV Evolution III racers at the event. Last year the pair placed second and third. This year Mitsubishi will clearly be gunning for positions 1 and 2.
The annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a difficult 12.42-mile/156 corner road course through the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The race starts at an elevation of 9,390 feet and ends at 14,110 feet – nearly 3 miles above sea level. The Pikes Peak race was first run in 1916, and is the second oldest motorsports event in the United States after the Indianapolis 500.
