The latest vehicle to make its way from the design studio of a major manufacturer into the digital world of Gran Turismo 6 is this; the Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo. Developed by designers at Volkswagen’s Santa Monica, California design center, the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo will make its real-world debut at the Worthersee Festival in Austria, which kicks off on the 28th May.
The Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo is designed to showcase the ultimate racing version of the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI. Not that the concept shares much visually with the Golf. If anything it looks more like a Lamborghini. Power for the Volkswagen GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo comes from a 3.0 litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine which pumps out 503 horsepower and 491 lb-ft of torque. The seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission has been reprogrammed to provide lightning quick shifts, and routes power to all-four wheels via a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
The exterior of the VW GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo concept is pretty extreme. It’s low, sleek and very, very pointy. There’s a massive rear wing at the back designed to provide additional downforce, and the 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels only just fit under the bulging wheel arches.
For the Wothersee show car, Volkswagen have chosen a bright metallic red for the concept. This color was specifically chosen as a modern interpretation of the classic red Golf GTI color.
The interior of the Volkswagen GTI Roadster Gran Turismo features a pair of supportive racing seats with 5-point harnesses. The steering wheel is a multi-function yoke-style unit mounted on a long column inspired by rally car design. A single digital gauge cluster acts as the instrument panel. Both the driver and passenger are protected by carbon fiber structures which encircle the seats.
