2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible

The C7 version of the Chevrolet Corvette is the most capable yet. The Z06 model even more so. And now you can have all the performance benefits of the Z06 with the tanning potential of the convertible. Say hello to the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible.

2015 marks the first time the Corvette Z06 Convertible has been offered from the factory since 1963, when the Z06 option package was introduced for endurance racing. According to Corvette Chief engineer Tadge Juechter, the lack of a Z06 convertible model for so long is due to the fact it was only until fairly recently that it has been possible to make a lightweight, open-roof structure strong enough to cope with the braking, cornering, and acceleration of something like the Z06.

The Corvette Z06 convertible features an electronic folding roof that can be lowered remotely using the car’s key fob. The roof can be opened or closed on the move, at speeds of up to 30 mph.

Amazingly the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible’s aluminium structure is 20 percent stiffer than the chassis of the previous fixed-roof C6 Z06. The weight is almost identical to the current C7 Z06 coupe. They also share the same drivetrain, chassis components, gadgets and equipment options – including the Z07 Performance Package which includes Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and adjustable aerodynamic elements.

Just like its hardtop cousin, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is powered by an LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine producing around 625 horsepower. The engine benefits from Direct injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing. This results in an engine which is both extremely capable on the track, but also fuel-efficient when required. The standard transmission is a seven-speed manual, with an 8-speed paddle shift transmission optional.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible will be offered in three versions: The standard Z06. The Z06 with optional carbon-fiber aero package offering four times greater downforce. And finally the Z06 equipped with the Z07 Performance Package which offers a number of enhancements to both the chassis and the aerodynamics.
