Toyota Hybrid-R Concept: More Details

After last week’s announcement that Toyota would be bringing a hybrid-powered concept car called the Hybrid-R along to the Frankfurt Motor Show, the company has decided to furnish us with a little more information on the vehicle. As well as a more informative image than just a big blue HYBRID-R logo.
As mentioned before, the Toyota Hybrid-R uses a variation of the hybrid drivetrain used in the Toyota TS030 LMP1 endurance racer. What wasn’t mentioned before was the power. According to Toyota the Hybrid-R will achieve a maximum power output of 400 horsepower. That’s significantly less than the combined 830 horsepower the race car is endowed with – 530 hp from the 3.4 litre V8, and 300 horsepower in boost from the KERS system. But still, 400 horsepower is nothing to be sniffed at.

The Toyota Hybrid-R will also feature a dual-mode drive configuration which allows the car to be tailored to suit either the road or track.
From the render of the concept which Toyota released today, it’s fairly clear the Hybrid-R isn’t a low-slung sports car. In fact it looks rather unassuming, more like a compact car than anything else. Hopefully next time we hear of the Hybrid-R it will be the real deal and Toyota will finally spill the beans on their Frankfurt surprise.
