Lamborghini have just unveiled a new special version of their junior supercar – the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse. I’m not sure if anyone is keeping track, but Lamborghini could soon take the title as the supercar manufacturer with the largest number of special editions for one model. Well they might have some competition from Porsche, who just love their 911 special editions, and Bugatti who can’t seem to stop making one-off Veyrons. But anyway, the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is designed for those who want a supercar which is equally at home on the road and track.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will make its official public debut in Frankfurt this September, and by then there’s a good chance it’ll already be sold out. It’s based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo, which is used in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – one of the faster one-make race series in the world. As such, the LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is destined to; “bring the fascination of motor racing to the street-legal world”.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse shares the same 570 horsepower V10 engine which is used in the racing version with no modifications, the same rear wing for greater aerodynamic downforce and the same removable engine hood with quick-release system. Just like in the Super Trofeo, these elements are made of carbon composite material, alongside a host of other components. This keeps the dry weight in check, and the Squadra Corse tips the scales at 1340 kilograms (3,150 lbs), 70 kgs (154 lbs) less than Gallardo LP 560-4. This amounts to a power-to-weight ratio of 2.35 kilograms per hp, which combined with the 4×4 traction system and the six-speed e-gear transmission allows a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time of 3.4 seconds. After that, 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) is achieved in 10.4 seconds, and the top speed is a 199 mph (320 km/h). Making it the fastest road-legal production Gallardo ever.
