When the Audi R8 arrived in 2006 it was a bit of a revelation. Here was a supercar you could drive everyday, and its service intervals weren’t measured in the hundreds of miles. But now its newey-newness is starting to wear off and it’s in need of a bit of an overhaul. Something which is due to take place around 2015.
Preempting Audi’s designers, Auto Express have come up with their own digital renderings of what the second generation R8 could look like. If their right – and they’re more often right than wrong – the new R8 will be more of an evolution than a revolution. It has a very familiar feel about it, with the most significant changes being the Audi e-Tron inspired front end, and revised side blades which have been shrunk considerably. Overall it’s just that little bit neater and sharper than the current car. Although personally I’d miss those distinctive contrasting side scoops.
Auto Express say the new R8 will feature several technologies and material choices which have been brought over from the company’s successful R8 LMS race car. These will include a number of carbon fiber body panels and structural components, and a high-downforce double diffuser. Additional weight savings will be made through carbon ceramic brakes, titanium wheel hubs, and carbon fiber anti-roll bars.

Powerwise it’s expected Audi will stick with upgraded versions of the V8 and V10 units already in use. These will be both more powerful and more economical.
The interior too will get some attention from Audi’s designers, with a digital dash and digital rear view mirror likely to make an appearance.
