BMW M6 Gran Coupe

By the summer of next year the BMW M range will be expanded by yet another niche vehicle. When the M6 Gran Coupe goes on sale it will plug a tiny gap in BMW’s immense wall of offerings by placing itself somewhere between the BMW M5 Sedan and the BMW M6 Coupe.
Designed to compete against the likes of Audi’s S7 and Mercedes’ CL63, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe comes suitably well equipped with a 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 that offers up an impressive 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. With a 0-60 mph time of just 4.1 seconds it’s a little quicker out of the box than both its competitors. The top speed is electronically capped at 155 mph. Hooked up to that potent engine is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is complimented by an electronically controled Active M Differential for better traction.

Aside from the beasty drivetrain ,the BMW M6 Gran Coupe also features an M-specific chassis. Each component in the suspension and chassis of the car has been developed based on the extensive race expertise of BMW M engineers. The aluminum-intensive integral rear axle subframe in the M6 Gran Coupe is rigidly bolted to the body to maximize body rigidity and handling precision. In addition the car is equipped with M Dynamic Damper Control (DDC) electronically controlled shock absorbers. DDC uses electro-hydraulic damping force adjustment, allowing the shock absorber settings to be adjusted at the touch of a button. In default Comfort mode, the dampers respond adaptively to the condition of the road surface and the driver’s style. Sport mode activates a noticeably stiffer damper set-up, while Sport Plus allows further stiffening of the suspension for maximum performance.
The brakes of the BMW M6 Gran Sport have also been beefed up to match the cars significant power. Hiding behind the massive 20-inch wheels are the large diameter two-piece rotors. These are grabbed by six-piston calipers painted in metalic blue complete with the M logo.
On the outside the BMW M6 Gran Coupe has a number of tell-tale upgrades which differentiate it from the lower-spec 6 Series Gran Coupe. But having said that its fairly restrained in its appearance. Up front there is a new bumper with slightly larger intakes, deeper side skirts, a new rear bumper, slightly flared wheel arches, an exposed carbon fiber roof, and a few discreet “M6″ badges.
